Mountain Biking & CyclingThe countryside around the Belted Will has many old railway lines that were used when coal was mined from the fells, around 100 years ago. The lines make excellent cycle routes and cut through some breathtaking countryside. Many interesting features are on the lines, Lord Carlisle's Railway (an old haunt of George Stephenson's famous Rocket, which first ran on the line from May 1837), Tindale Tarn (RSPB reserve) and several old coal and lead mines. The wider district of Cumbria itself has many trails of all grades, a very useful guide to some of the can be found at Mountain Bike Cumbria (link). Secure, indoor storage for your cycles is available at the Belted Will and cycles are also available for hire from the Eden's Lawn Garage in nearby Haltwistle Brampton Golf ClubUndulating heathland course.
